David Allen, Cumbria’s serving Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, was selected on February 16 as Labour candidate for the Mayor of Cumbria. The election for the first Mayor of the new Cumbria Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) will take place next year.

Mr Allen said: “It has been the privilege of my life to serve Cumbria as Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner. Together, we have cut anti-social behaviour and crime, strengthened neighbourhood policing, and invested in young people using money taken directly from drug dealers.

“Now I’m ready to take that record of delivery into the role of Mayor of Cumbria, continuing to build safer communities, create economic opportunity for all, strengthen our world-class nuclear and defence industries, and improve transport connections across our county.

“The Tories broke neighbourhood policing and decimated the NHS, where I previously worked for seven years. Reform have no plan for Cumbria and would pit communities against each other with their divisive politics.

“Cumbria needs a Mayor who will put the needs of ordinary Cumbrians first. I am ready to be that Mayor.”
